Tried cable select earlier just for the heck of it and didn't make a difference.
Currently though I'll go on the assumption that the disc was somehow "damaged" and that the Seagate tools have "repaired" the faults on the disc. Based on this assumption it should work. Just need to get home and try it for real  |
Ubuntu installed on the machine last evening so I'll close this question for now. Guess it was the disc all along that was the culprit and not any settings. Oh well..
