I always buy several external enclosures when I find a good deal. To fill them, I buy factory-refurbished drives in 5 or 10 packs from a couple reputable sources. They make great gifts (for others and to myself as well). I've given away several as gifts and sold at least as many. When I work on someone's computer, I will say "Have you considered one of these?" and they almost always want one.
If the job included upgrading a notebook hard drive and their old drive is still good, if they want, I will put their old drive in an enclosure and charge them $25.00 for it (the enclosures only cost me about $8.00/ea). The four unboxed enclosures in the first pic already have drives in them; 20, 30, 40, and 80 gig.
I also have a couple of those 3.5" IDE to 2.5" IDE adapters.
