What’s New on Windows Vista For Hardware Enthusiasts
Thursday, March 01, 2007

HardwareSecrets.com have released a comprehensive guide to the new features of Windows Vista which covers Aero, diagnostic tools, BitLocker, reliability tools and much more. "In this tutorial we will be also saying on which versions each new hardware-related feature can be found – not all versions have all new features. The only version that has all new features is the very expensive Ultimate version. So, the decision regarding the version you should buy must also be based on the features you want to have and not only on pricing. For average Joe finding the correct balance between price and features is probably the highest challenge of this new version of Windows." We released a similar article here.

The importance of local support
Thursday, March 01, 2007

Cnet's Michael Kanellos describes some of the different approaches to supplying PCs to the developing world, including VIA's local approach: "Via collaborates with universities and local manufacturers in Africa and India to develop inexpensive PCs and thin clients based on its chips. "One factor is local job support and one is local tech support. When the products are out in the field, who is going to stand by and support them? Support is absolutely critical," said Richard Brown, vice president of marketing for Via. "Oftentimes, schools want to buy locally."'

IGEL upgrading thin client range
Thursday, March 01, 2007

"Igel is pursuing a strategy of cramming more into its devices for equivalent or, in some cases, lower prices than them. This was visible in January, when it moved part of its product line to the latest generation of silicon from VIA Technologies Inc, which has around 60% of the market for thin client silicon. The Compact low-end device, for instance, was upgraded to the VIA Eden processor and CN700 chipset, which comes with the VIA V4 bus technology, and while other vendors have done the same, only Igel implemented support, made possibly by the VIA technology, for dual screens, i.e. the ability to split the screen to show, say, a Citrix and a Windows Terminal Services instance side-by-side."
