The two models are similar except for the keyboard layout and reviews of both have been extremely positive. "I'm glad to see that, like our OQO owners, reviewers seem to really appreciate the anytime/anywhere benefits of OQO computers -- fit in your pockets and comfortably in your hands, great connectivity, and the ability to access all your information and applications anytime/anywhere." Take a look at all the reviews he's uncovered.
| OQO in Europe Tuesday, October 23, 2007
The OQO model e2 is getting great reviews in Europe. IT Week takes a look at the handheld laptop running on a 1.5 GHz VIA C7-M processor and like what they see. It scores about the same as the Samsung Q1 UMPC that was released last year "but the model e2 feels more responsive than this result might suggest and more in line with ultra-portable laptops." | Packard Bell EasyNote XS comes in at just over US$700 Tuesday, October 23, 2007

It is good to see that Packard Bell's online sales site now has a listing for the EasyNote XS, the first product that will be available to be based on VIA' NanoBook reference design. The units will be sold by Packard Bell into the EU market. Packard Bell's UK site lists the model Easynote XS20-006 as "coming soon" priced at 349 pounds (including VAT). I think it's pretty incredible that a UMPC with such a functional design, running Windows XP Home, will be available for the same cost as my first PDA!

| What's Beyond Vista? Saturday, October 20, 2007 So there is life after Vista. Microsoft recently posted a video of a lecture that included a discussion on a new slim kernel called MinWin, which was born during the development of Windows 7. "The kernel, which lacks Vista's bells and whistles or even a graphics system at all, takes up just 25MB on disk as compared with 4GB that the full Windows Vista takes up. And while people would need far more than MinWin to run even a basic Web server, engineer Eric Traut said it shows that Windows, at its heart, does not have to be a monster resource hog." Get the whole story here. | |
| Vista's Memory Problem Saturday, October 20, 2007 Slashdot.org uncovers some more bad news about Vista. It just can't get enough memory. Apparently the system simply isn't able to copy large collection of files without running out of memory and in some instances the files aren't completely copied. SP1 hasn't fixed the problem. Instead, users would have to request a hotfix. Slashdot has the info. | |

ASUS has come up with a couple of solutions for the DDR2 and DDR3 that both use the same P35 chipset. The Blitz Formula and Blitz Extreme motherboards enable enthusiasts to maximize their DDR2 systems at a lower cost. "Since new memory standards are always costly at the start and some users would like to really maximize their DDR2 based system. ASUS is well aware of this and felt that there was no reason why both kinds of memory module owners couldn't have a little bit of cake and ice cream." Check out Virtual Hideout's take on the two boards. Hot Hardware is taking a look at ASUS' LCD. The PG221 is branded the "Hardcore Gamer’s Dream Monitor." Looking at each of its individual features, the monitor appears to be a winner, but Hot Hardware won't be satisfied till they put it to the test. See if it matches their expectations. Modders-Inc just reviewed one of OCZ's CPU coolers. The Vanquisher comes back with a thumbs up for its heatpipe design and quiet fan. It also doesn't require a back plate to be mounted. OCC got its hands on a Super Talent SmartClip Mp3 Player. The tiny thing measures 45.0mm x 28.0mm x 10.5mm. "Super Talent has used touch panel technology for the volume up and down buttons, as well as the track forward and previous buttons." It's cute to look at but how's the playback? OCC pulls out all the stops to find out. Digital Trends recently reviewed the LaCie 2big Triple 2TB RAID hard drive with positive results for both amateurs and professionals.
