Armband for Your iPhone
Wednesday, July 16, 2008

Style does matter and armbands are easiest and coolest way to carry your phone while jogging, working out and partying. Many armbands are available but this the first time I came across an armband for the iPhone. Belkin’s design is a cool and funky.  It’s made of neoprene that protects your iPhone from sweat and dust. You can also squeeze your keys or other stuff into a small pocket provided in the armband.

“Belkin’s Sport Armband for iPhone ($30, also known as Armband for iPhone) is the simplest design of the ones we’ve seen, but undeniably attractive in its minimalist approach. Though its package is comparatively threadbare—Belkin has designed an all-in-one neoprene iPhone case and armband that cannot be detached from one another, with a single thin metal O-ring for adjustment of the Velcro and neoprene band—what’s there is nice.” iLongue

New Media Player from iRiver
Wednesday, July 16, 2008

Yet another company you probably haven't heard of is contending with Apple in the media player segment. iRiver, a French company, is planning to launch its portable media player named ‘SPINN’. The exciting feature of the player is the design, which makes it handy and easy to use it with just one finger. With a large 3.2” AMOLED screen the player is capable of playing audio, video and also has mobile TV functionality. You to wait till the third Quarter of this year to place your hands on one of these.

“At long last, iRiver has released its SPINN portable media player that comes in a unique form factor where hardware is concerned. You get a lovely 3.2" AMOLED display that is miles better than what conventional LCD offers, but one major drawback would be a missing memory card slot - microSD or miniSD, just give us something to play around with!” Ubergizmo

Science May Result in Real Terminators in Future!
Wednesday, July 16, 2008

No, I am not talking about James Cameron’s next release of his Terminator movies but here I’d like to talk about something about which most of us are not aware.  If you have seen James Cameron’s Terminator may guess what exactly I am talking about. CNN has published an article explaining the possibilities of global catastrophic risks in future. For the first time, group of experts from around the world will hold a conference to discuss the risks of a global catastrophic disaster caused by intelligent technologies.

“On the final day of the Global Catastrophic Risk Conference, experts will focus on what could be the unintended consequences of new technologies, such as superintelligent machines that, if ill-conceived, might cause the demise of Homo sapiens.”

"Any entity which is radically smarter than human beings would also be very powerful," said Dr. Nick Bostrom, director of Oxford's Future of Humanity Institute, host of the symposium. "If we get something wrong, you could imagine the consequences would involve the extinction of the human species." – CNN. Click here to read more.

What Would You Like to Change on All New 3G iPhone?
Wednesday, July 16, 2008

Over 1 million 3G iPhones have already been sold since the release and many owners of new 3G iPhone are now very busy exploring their hot new toy. But it seems that a few folks have already explored the device and came up with some conclusions. This morning I came across an article on ZDNet, posted by Natasha Lomas, where she has tried to point out 10 things that she would like to change on the all new 3G iPhone. Complaints already!

“We're not happy the battery is welded into the iPhone and can only be removed by qualified Apple engineers at remote locations--and, when out of warranty, for a fee. Not least because it would be nice to be able to carry a spare in case we run out of juice in the middle of watching Lego Star Wars videos on YouTube.” – ZDNet. Click here to read more ...

5G Cellular Network by 2012
Tuesday, July 15, 2008

If you’re already satisfied with a 3G network and think it’s enough for mobile browsing, hold your breath! Korea is planning to go for 5G cellular networks. While the European countries are planning for 4G networks with download speeds of 100Mbps to 1Gbps, Korea is taking the giant leap of introducing a 5G network,  but you have to wait till 2012-2015. This clearly tells us that we can expect 5G phones in the future. Read about the article here.

“3G-capable cellular networks are simply handy these days, which let us always stay connected to the Internet, especially handy while WiFi hotspots are hard to reach. When I’m traveling, I always depend on the 3G Internet connection, which I get a USB HSDPA modem hooked up to my laptop, to keep this blog frequently updated.”

Apple Claims that it has sold over 1 million iPhone 3Gs in just three days. Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO commented, “It took 74 days to sell the first one million original iPhones, so the new iPhone 3G is clearly off to a great start around the world.”

It has also been reported by Apple that during the first weekend, iPhone and iPod consumers downloaded more than 10 million applications from the new App Store. “The groundbreaking App Store now has more than 800 native applications, including over 200 offered for free and more than 90 percent available for less than US$10.00” - Apple.

All about Benchmarking
Tuesday, July 15, 2008

It’s very difficult to compare hardware just based on their specification. Benchmarking is the process of judging the virtual performance of software or hardware by running it for a number of times under pre-set conditions. Synthetic benchmarks and Real world benchmarks are two ways used by the websites to compare PC hardware. Well, what’s the difference between these two methods? Jason Jacobs from Techware labs had posted an article exploring the differences between synthetic benchmarks and real world benchmarks.

“You may have noticed that many hardware and software review websites make sure to note when they use real or synthetic benchmarks in a particular review. Some sites concentrate solely on synthetic benchmarks while others concentrate on the so called "real world" benchmarks. The important thing is not to know which one is right or wrong but to understand what the difference is and what you can personally do with the data that you get from these benchmarks you find online. So lets first start with the difference between real world and synthetic in terms of benchmarking.”

Gaming on the 3G iPhone
Tuesday, July 15, 2008

We all know that the Apple iPhone 3G is a great phone and music player, but the 3G phone can convert itself into a gaming machine too. The iPhone 2.0 software comes with direct access to the Apple store, where you can download third party applications approved by Apple. The Apple store has plenty of games uniquely designed for the 3G iPhone. The iPhone, with Accelerometer, enables you to play the games by rotating and dragging the screen with your finger tip. OS X Reality has posted small videos of four best games for the iPhone.

“Everyone wondered if the iPhone would be a viable gaming platform, now that the iPhone 2.0 software has been officially launched that question has finally been answered with a resounding, YES!”

Paid vs Free E-Mail Services
Tuesday, July 15, 2008

Rich Menga from PCMech has published an article asking if it is worth paying money for using email services. Most of us use free webmail services and why not – they’re free. But some people pay money for email services. Why are they paying money for using email if there are free webmail services available around the globe? Read the entire article to answer, is email worth paying For?

“What is the single largest difference between using a free webmail account from a provider (such as Yahoo, Microsoft or Google) and your included from-ISP e-mail? The difference is that your ISP has an obligation to keep the e-mail service running whereas the free providers do not.” – PCMech.

Decode Windows Processes!
Tuesday, July 15, 2008

If you are a Windows user, then you must have experienced the frequent crashes of explorer.exe and leaving you to wonder why some of the processes munch so much of your system’s memory. Some smart folks can jump to Windows task manager and manage the crashes and processes but if you are not among them and don’t feel comfortable to interact with the Windows task manager window, Microsoft will help you out! Microsoft is distributing a free utility called Process explorer which can be obtained here. This utility is easy to use and helps you locate problem areas. TechwareLabs has published an article where they have explained how to use it, why to use it... etc.

“Now you can see how much memory each one of these processes take up, but we still haven't found any information that we couldn't have with task manager. This changes when you find the "services.exe" entry and expand it. Your window will get flooded with new entries including the infamous svchost.exe. What you want to do here is inspect each of the processes under each svchost.exe and then also by mousing over it and see which services are running under the processes.” – TechwareLabs.
