Via has "today announced the VIA EPIA LT-Series Mini-ITX mainboard based on the VIA CX700 system media processor. Powered by the highly efficient 1.5GHz or fanless 1.0GHz VIA C7 processor, the VIA EPIA LT has a maximum operating power consumption of less than 20 watts. The VIA EPIA LT mainboard incorporates a number of innovative features for the fast-growing x86-based embedded market, such as greater device performance, clearer definition video and storage technologies, and a full feature I/O set including two LAN ports and native support for two LVDS panels, four COM ports, a PCI slot and up to six USB 2.0 ports. Chippy from Solar-umpc.com is yet to start his bike riding journey across Germany, but he's making sure he will be very well prepared. Having scoured the Internet for information about what professional expeditions use to power PCs, he has realized that it's an area that has a lot of potential for improvement. "After I've finished the solar-umpc tour I'm planning to take the knowledge gained, continue to add to it and then try and design an ultra-efficient solar-computing solution. Well at least I'll try! I have been speaking to Select-Solar about this and they're also keen to find out more. Maybe together we can take solar computing to the next level and make it available in a cheaper, lighter and more efficient package. | DDR2 RAM boosts performance of thin clients

"Neoware has upgraded several of its Linux-based thin clients with more and faster memory, and has also added a factory-installed wireless option. The new DDR2 RAM in select models is claimed to provide up to 25 percent faster performance, with no increase in price. Neoware says the Linux and Windows CE versions of its c50, e90, and e140 thin clients now come with a minimum of 256 MB of RAM, while the Windows XP Embedded versions start at 512 MB. In addition to providing faster performance, the new memories are said to consume 10 percent less power. All three models are powered by Via processors. The c50 is clocked at 400 MHz, the e90 at 800 MHz, and the e140 at 1 GHz." Read on at LinuxDevices.com. | |
