Have you ever got carried away in a forum? It's easy to forget that your fellow forum members are real people, or to take on an alter ego that you wouldn't show in real life. Chris Taylor explores the pitfalls of forum banter providing several real-life examples of when forum conduct hate bitten the hand that typed it!

"I’ve been using forums—the one in this story regularly and a half dozen or so others off and on—for many a year now. This story, is not unique—I’ve seen similar things happen before. Another guy on this forum, this stupid kid, he had a habit of bragging about the speeds he’d managed to achieve on his motorcycle. He’d come on and tell us how he’d just been on the highway and floored it and gone more than double the legal limit and how, yeah, that was really cool. When he was picked up by the police a couple of weeks later and the story became fodder for the tabloids and current affair shows, his posts were shown on national television."
