If you're a regular visitor to VIA Arena you will already know about the VIA pc-1 series of mainboards. They are fully integrated mainboards that feature a VIA C7-D processor. VIA have just announced their availability in the UK: "The VIA pc-1 mainboards are available now available from Multithread through the retail website www.linitx.com, and other popular e-tail outlets such as www.infotechshop.co.uk, www.internetreadypcs.co.uk, and www.epcbuyer.com, while complete systems will be available shortly through Kudos in Scotland (www.kudos-systems.org.uk) and Brookestreet Ltd in Northern and Southern Ireland (http://www.brookestreet.com/)." | Wibrain B1 available in the US

For some reason I had it in my head that the uniquely designed Wibrain B1 UMPC was only going to be available in Korea. I was wrong! Dynamism is now offering the unit for a mere $699 for 512MB and 30GB hard drive, or double those spces and pay $849. Mobility Site reports: 
"The WiBrain is one of the first devices to utilize an impressive 1024 x 600 resolution 4.8-inch WSVGA touchscreen. Phenomenally high pixel density makes it sharp, and touch sensitivity makes it convenient. Weighing only 1.12 pounds (510g), this full powered Windows XP machine still yields five-hours official battery run time (about three-hours real world use) running on an amply powerful VIA C7M 1.2GHz CPU with 60gb HDD. Integrated wifi and Bluetooth make for easy connectivity, and the pop-up camera/mic make for easy “Skype-ability”." | |

Blogger Carl Weinschenk on IT Business Week has made some astute observations about the ultra mobile space and the challenges that manufacturers and their marketeers face. He talks about the sometimes blurred line between different device categories and writes: "the differences between the various devices are fluid and significant. The challenge to the UMPC community — as well as those pushing smartphones, traditional but more fully-featured cell phones, tablets, ultra-mobiles and other handheld devices — is to explain the unique advantages of their category to the vast majority of people who don’t closely follow this complex world." This is one reason why I believe video has taken off so much as bloggers and other media try to show the world how UMPCs work. It's much easier to show people a UMPC in action than to try to explain one.Since UMPCs run a fully fledged version of Microsoft's operating systems, it is easier for a potential client to visualize one in use since they don't need to use a run-down version of Microsoft software or other operating systems or applications that are foreign to them. Sales pitches to the likes of CSX Transportation, who last week decided to fit their 85 inspectors with OQOs, would no doubt go along the lines of - imagine being able to have a laptop in your pocket? Furthermore, with this advent of UMPCs taking off in various vertical markets, true wireless broadband connectivity is also starting to be utilized by a wider variety of businesses and organizations - imagine being able to send updates back to HQ throughout the day, the sales pitch would go. It's a far cry from clipboards, paper and pen. | |

You may remember that a week or so ago, Technovoyance released their first video in the Zonbu Nation series. In part two the Zonbuitants take the Zonbus out of their boxes, plug them in and power them up. The guy with the messy desk has computing experience whilst the guy with the pristine neat desk just uses computers. This is the first time that either of them have used a computer like the Zonbu.
