OCC posts up their review of the ZEROtherm Hurricane HC92 Cu 8800 VGA Cooler. It gave them a few surprises when it came out of the box. It makes a fascinating read if you're into the latest and greatest. "It features four heatpipes connected to copper fins with an enclosure over the heatsink that has an alien type look. The top of the enclosure has a grill meant to symbolize the high wind movement in a Hurricane." It looks pretty cool, but how does it perform? OCC takes you there.

The Futurelooks team posted their view of the D-Link DIR-655 Xtreme N Gigabit Router. It comes equipped "with a built in four port Gigabit switch on the wired side and Draft N wireless capability up to 300 Mbps.  They say this is 14x faster than 802.11 G, but by my math, it should only be 5.5x faster (300/54.anyways).  It also boasts improved range, up to 6X more range, than regular D-Link 802.11g routers. Getting this range requires the use of one of their Xtreme N wireless adapters, so no Xtreme N on both ends, no Xtreme N range." The review looks fabulously detailed. Check it out.

BurnOut PC is interested in the Calibre P860 Videocard but it could stand a few extra add-ons to raise it to the 'exclusive' standard that the creators advertise. "Performance-wise this video card is very fast right out of the box, the extra 265mb is also a nice feature. You are able to tweak it just a lil bit more over the already highly overclocked GPU and Ram." It has its pros and cons but is generally a good buy. Take a closer look at the performance review.

EasyNote XS With an Alluring Price Tag
Wednesday, October 31, 2007

The EasyNote XS has won over a new supporter in Hugo Jobling of Trusted Reviews. Despite initial resistance to the form factor and components, he has since warmed up to the upcoming release with much more positivity. The change of heart is at least partly due to the price tag. "As mentioned previously, the XS boasts a 7in, 800 x 480 screen, 1.2GHz VIA C7-M processor and 1GB RAM. It also packs a 30GB hard drive integrated Wi-Fi and will run Window XP. Weighing in at 950g it's heavier for its size than, say, the super-light Toshiba R500 but should still pose light enough for day-to-day use." He has more to say, though. Find it here.

Chippy On the WiBrain Update
Wednesday, October 31, 2007

Chippy gets in on the talk about the new WiBrain specs being updated with new B1 information. "The specifications are now official and include the VIA C7-M processor, a 4.8" 1024x600 screen and a web-cam. Beware the HSDPA 'choices.' They are probably optional just as they are on the Everun. I'm in touch with the OEM for this and should be getting one to test as soon as they are available." Take a look at the UMPC and see who else is talking about it.

The Overclocker Cafe zooms in on the Apevia X-Jupiter G Junior Type Case, which is a smaller version of the X-Jupiter and comes with a window. It's also much cheaper at $75. "Apevia's cost conscious X-Jupiter Jr. is a fine example of how to get the most for your case upgrade dollar. A suggestion I'd offer to anyone looking to upgrade with this case would be to opt for the optional front intake fan as this will keep your HDD temperatures down." Catch the review.

Mushkin has joined the lineup of companies producing DDR3 kits. Virtual Hideout gets to check out "Mushkin's Enhanced HP3-10666 2GB Memory kit." Their DDR2 line was pretty successful, so there's high hopes for this debut run into DDR3. Join the Virtual Hideout crew as they run it through the usual battery of tests.

Driver Heaven recently reviewed the Hiper 5M730 from the Type-M product series. The non-modular power supply unit offers a 730W continuous output and 930W peak output. The price tag is just as heavy duty as the power, though. See if it's worth the asking price here.

Crysis Demo Unleashed
Tuesday, October 30, 2007

Crytek, creators of the award-winning Far Cry, have come up with the Crysis demo. This first person shooter game was built for the PC and the demo provides about 45 minutes of amazing gameplay. Tech Spot gets in on the action to find out "how the various mid-range and high-end graphics cards handle this new and exciting first person shooter. There will also be some brief visual quality comparisons along with some CPU scaling and DX9 vs. DX10 performance charts. The single-player demo supports both DX10 and DX9 rendering in Vista while Windows XP users are limited to DX9. While the game has been said to include 64-bit support, the demo can only be run in 32-bit mode, so there are no 32-bit vs. 64-bit comparisons just yet." Interested?

Neverwinter Nights: Mask of the Betrayer
Tuesday, October 30, 2007

Neverwinter Nights appears to be one of those that only gets better in the sequel. Perhaps they deliberately leave room for improvement in the initial version to blow your socks off in the follow-up. Or maybe they just learn from their mistakes. The original Neverwinter Nights was tidied up with its expansions to produce (among other things) one of the best singleplayer campaigns. Neverwinter Nights 2 appears to be following the same pattern. "although a solid game it suffers from a poorly optimized engine and a decent, but slightly boring story. Can Mask of Betrayer repeat the success of the originals expansions and be what NWN2 should have been from the get go?" Gaming Heaven wants to know. And by golly, they're gonna find out.
