| | | Nintendo Outrun Xbox and Playstation Sales in Japan Monday, December 01, 2008
When we talk about consoles the first brands that strike our minds are Sony Playstation and Microsoft Xbox. But the real hero is the Nintendo Wii (in terms of sales).
Nintendo has sold more than 35 million Wiis worldwide since it was launched in late 2006. Now Nintendo's plucky platform has hit a new sales milestone across the Pacific Ocean. Japanese industry-research firm Enterbrain is reporting that Wii sales have exceeded 7 million units in the island nation as of last week. The console's sales were boosted past this latest barrier by the launch of Animal Crossing: City Folk, which sold over 303 000 units during the week of November 17-23, according to Enterbrain's estimates. Its major competitors, the Xbox 360 and Sony Playstation 3, continue to struggle in Japan despite massive marketing efforts.

| Sensor is as Important as Megapixels for Cameras Monday, December 01, 2008
There are some myths which are commonplace in photography. For example, megapixels are solely responsible for taking fine photographs. The case sensor, lens, general hardware quality, interface, and controls all have equal importance as the megapixels of the camera. The size and quality of the sensor and the superiority of the lens have equal weight as megapixels. Hardware Secrets explore the truth.
“The sensor is the part of the digital camera that captures light to create an image. It is analogous to the film in non-digital cameras. Similar to the coating of light-sensitive material on photographic film, the sensor of a digital camera has light-sensitive cells. In this tutorial we will teach you everything you need to know about this important component”.
| Asus GeForce 9800 GT Graphics Card Monday, December 01, 2008
There was a time when buying a fully equipped gaming card was like emptying your wallet completely; however, now you can get away with spending around $100. The Asus GeForce 9800 GT graphic card is the successor to the 9800 GTX and is almost its equivalent in terms of performance but it costs less. It not only has striking features but it’s also able to surpass hardcore gaming tests. Check out its performance and specs on Techgage.
“the 9800 GT, which features a slower core and shader frequencies, but almost doubles the number of cores, effectively giving us a card that's close to being equivalent to the original 9800 GTX, save for higher frequencies. Given these specs, it's hard to give a general percentage of performance increase we should see over the 9600 GT, but for the extra $20 the card costs, the value might be far greater”.
| Seven Classic PC Symptoms! Monday, December 01, 2008
If your PC is having trouble, what do you usually do? Probably, if you are a PC expert, you can fix it of your own but if you’re not, you might need to call up an engineer or an old friend who is tech savvy. Well, the first one is expensive and the second one might cost you an hour of having to listen to his World of Warcraft raid stories! So, the only option left for you is to do it yourself and to do so I’d recommend you to go through these seven PC-diagnostic tips. “Symptom: Sluggish response time Could be: A software problem. The fix: Run a full antivirus scan to make sure you don't have any malicious software tripping up your computer. If malware isn't the problem, get into your System Configuration utility and look at whether applications are continuously running in the background that don't have to be, such as an application you rarely use that's constantly looking for updates. Then uncheck it, freeing up resources.” – Computerworld.
| Television Channels for Cell phones Monday, December 01, 2008
I can be a bit of a television junkie. What about you? If you miss your favorite television program what do you do? Either watch the repeat telecast or catch it on Internet. However, it may be possible to enjoy your tv shows on the move as ATSC has set up a scheme which will allow broadcasters to put out mobile channels. These channels can be picked up on cell phones and portable media players. “A final ATSC standard isn’t expected until the latter part of 2009. The candidate standard is based on Mobile Pedestrian Handheld technology jointly developed by LG Electronics (SEO: 066570) and Harris Broadcast. Samsung also supports the standard after trying to push its own technology earlier on. Commercial mobile TV services aren’t expected to be launched until 2010, but manufacturers are developing test devices to run in trials next year”- MocoNews.
| Google Earth now on the iPhone: a bird's eye view of any location on the planet Saturday, November 29, 2008
I've been expecting this to happen for months and after a long wait, Google has released Google Earth for the iPhone. With this application Google puts a planet's worth of imagery and other geographic information right on your iPhone. All you need to do is to type in a location and the application zooms in to the place. Similar to the desktop version you can view information about the location through Wikipedia and also look at snapshots of the place at ground level. The application may take some time to load and produce the results but it does displays quality output in the end. It really is a beautiful application and free, one that’s worth downloading. Find out more about the application in our videos here.

| VIA Leaving the Chipset Business – Oh my God, is that News? | |
| | Location: Blogs John Gatt's Babblings |
| | Posted by: John Gatt | Thursday, August 14, 2008 2:41 PM | As some of you may know, I was once heavily involved in the VIA chipset business for quite a number of years. I did everything from reference board designs to chipset presentations at QuakeCon. Last year it became evident that VIA was leaving the chipset business. It was even said in a coupe of interviews, that VIA will only be focusing on chipsets for their own CPUs. Richard Brown, VIA’s VP of Marketing, was interviewed this week, where he reconfirmed that VIA has left the chipset market – not that he really needed to as it’s plainly obvious since VIA hasn’t released a chipset for any product other than its own for well over a year. But yet some media seem to have taken this little comment, confirming something that was very obvious, way out of proportion. It’s laughable that journalists are even thinking this is worthy news. Some of these guys really need to get out from underneath their mushroom and look around at what’s going on, or is it really just that not much is happening in the PC industry so regurgitating news that’s over a year old is the best they can come up with?! | | | Permalink | Trackback |
