| | Deadline of Windows XP Downgrade Extended to July 2009 Friday, October 10, 2008
Microsoft confirmed that they are extending the deadline of the Windows XP downgrade to the end of July 2009. People who are not interested in going for Vista can directly opt for Windows 7 since Microsoft is planning the launch of Windows 7 for six months after the end of XP. The exception could be customers of the Asus Eee PC, Dell Inspiron Mini, or Acer Aspire Those classes of notebooks will support XP till 2010. Many people believe this extension was done to ensure that Microsoft doesn’t lose sales since many people still prefer XP over Vista. “A Microsoft spokesman claimed in an e-mail that the move is designed to help businesses upgrade to Vista painlessly. "As more customers make the move to Windows Vista, we want to make sure that they are making that transition with confidence and that it is as smooth as possible. Providing downgrade media for a few more months is part of that commitment,"” – Engadget.
| | Watch out for the Geek with the Calculator Friday, October 10, 2008
This may look like a standard calculator, but this calculator made by Chinavision has a small camera mounted on the side of the calculator to capture whatever is going on to the side of you. It doesn’t provide high quality video or pictures but it’s ample for a bit of spying or subversive text copying. With a price tag of US$193 you’d have to be pretty desperate though.

| Do want Help From a Scary Robot? Friday, October 10, 2008
I always thought robots were designed to be entertaining and/or to help mankind. Maybe I was wrong. This robot reminds me of some character out of a horror movie. Named Repliee R-1, this robot resembles an actual five-year-old Japanese girl. The features of the robot include never aging flexible silicone skin, hair, and a plethora of motors to help her interact and move about in a life-like manner. Does it really scare you? Na … she is designed to assist senior citizens and the disabled.

| Sony Ericsson C902 Debuts in Next James Bond Movie Friday, October 10, 2008
James Bond movies are a sheer thrill to watch and the gadgets used by Bond also always make an impression with me. In his next adventure, Quantum of Solace, James Bond uses the new Sony Ericsson C902. The limited James Bond gadget features a stylish titanium color and a 5 megapixel camera. The Bond themed phone is loaded with exclusive content including a Quantum of Solace trailer, special themes, wallpapers, Quantum of Solace java-game, some music and voice tones. Personally, I’d never buy a phone based on content alone.
| | Discussion Topic: Force Unleased vs Clone Wars 3D Friday, October 10, 2008
I actually had a chance over the last couple of weeks to spend a little bit of time playing Star Wars, the Force Unleashed on PS3. I must say that it did not let me down in any way shape or form. This is the game I purchased the PS3 for, although now I hear rumours that the game will finally be converted for PC. I have no doubt that this game would totally rock on the PC. The physics engine is simple amazing and the story line puts other recent Star Wars media to shame.
The most interesting thing I’ve found was that the 3D graphics used in the game, mainly for the cut scenes, in my opinion, were better than the recent Star Wars 3D Clone Wars anime crap movie. I mean yes, it was a fun movie and I enjoyed watching it, even though it was meant to be no more than a TV or DVD movie, but what is the obsession with anime style graphics?! Do people really prefer characters with big funny looking heads over what we get in some of the latest games like The Force Unleashed? I would definitely prefer to see that same Clone Wars movie done with the graphics engine used in the Force Unleased. What about you?
| Wi-Fi via LEDs Thursday, October 09, 2008
Do you know what’s behind your cell phone keypad or illuminated keypad? It’s the tiny LED that backlights it all. LED pretty much occupy each and every part of electronic gadgets ranging from warning lights to tail lamps of cars. The interesting fact of LEDs is that they could be used as Wi-Fi “access points” in the near future. Amazing isn’t it! A group of researchers at Boston University have been funded by the US National Science Foundation for their upcoming LED Wi-Fi project.
| AdSense by Google Debut in Games Thursday, October 09, 2008
Google is entering the in-game advertising sector with the launch of the beta version of its AdSense gaming program. The beta version mainly focuses on the posting of ads in flash based games. Google is planning to work with PlayFish, Mochi Media, Demand Media and Konami in the beginning but later they are plan to place ads with bigger names in gaming industry independently. This launch may provide serious competition to the other giant player in the in-game advertising sector, Microsoft. “According to Christian Oestlien, the senior product manager for AdSense for Games, the program's beta launch will focus on the placement of a variety of forms of ads in Flash-based casual games and some larger titles.” reported cnet news.

| The Force Unleashed | |
| | Location: Blogs Console Haven |
| | Posted by: Mike | Wed, 23 Jul 2008 21:23:32 GMT | Apart from making fans like myself soil their pants, the legacy of Star Wars still lives strong even after Revenge of the Sith. Scheduled for release on September 17, 2008 for Australia on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PSP, Nintendo DS, second-generation N-Gage, and PlayStation 2, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is expected to smash game sale records as the the story line that connects A New Hope and Revenge of the Sith is expanded in the latest game brought forth from LucasArts. The game centers around the mysterious apprentice Darth Vader had during the still largely undiscovered period of the Empire forming its foundations for power. Players will take control of Vader’s apprentice, known as Starkiller, in a third person perspective and are tasked with the mission of hunting down Jedi that escaped Order 66. Players will be immersed into a Star Wars world like no other, being the first game of the series to move onto next-gen graphics.
Game mechanics will take new form with each console. Players with a Wii will take advantage of the Wii remote for lightsaber control and the Nunchuk attachment will simulate Force power use, as with DS users being able to perform special lightsaber moves via input from the stylus control. Although The Force Unleashed title is predominantly the video game title, a series of books, action figures and an RPG supplement will coincide with the games release to provide that little bit extra of lore for the game. Lucas has confirmed that the game will release more lore by itself but felt that because any information brought out concerning this era was a high priority for Star Wars Fanatics, the additional franchise will satisfy that hunger. It seems the Star Wars franchise is in full swing again after its break since the release of Episode III. Although the movies are done, we have still got more upcoming games and the two new TV shows to look forward to. Thanks to IGN.COM for the info, you can check out the site for more information as well as media downloads at www.lucasarts.com/games/theforceunleashed. A more detailed review of the game will be done upon its release, the prospect of handling the actions of a lightsaber make this game born for the Wii in my opinion. | | | Permalink | Trackback |
