| Are Intel Chipsets Really Capable of Running DirectX 10 games? Friday, May 09, 2008
A blog over at Hardware Secrets includes some tantilising inside information about thoughts within the NVIDIA camp about the capability of Intel’s integrated solutions being able to run DirectX 10 games adequately. Saucey! "That is the question nVidia is asking around. They just sent us some information about DirectX 10 support on Intel chipsets with integrated video. The conclusion is simple: DirectX 10 support isn't relevant as on-board video doesn't have enough performance to run today's games anyway! See below the full e-mail we've got from nVidia. If you are interested in learning more about integrated (a.k.a. on-board) video from Intel it is an interesting read.”

There are so many wired speaker sets to choose from, but still very few bluetooth speaker sets in the market. With a bluetooth connected speaker set you can wirelessly connect your iPod, notebook, mobile phone, or other device without a cord. Bluetooth speakers do cost more than wired speakers, but if you have a particular need for the lack of wires, it’s a good option and these AV LABS AVL337 speakers look pretty nice too. | Mainstream Quad Core Processors Compared from AMD and Intel Thursday, May 08, 2008
Last week John published an article comparing Intel’s top of the line dual core and quad core processors, with a mind for gaming. If you still thought quad core tickled your fancy, perhaps you ought to broaden the field a little and check out MadShrimps article comparing AMD and Intel’s quad offerings? "In this review we compare AMD's latest AM2+ based Phenom X4 9850 to Intel's mainstream Q9300 Processor. Which one gives you more performance for the buck? Answering this question is not as straightforward as you might think. With AMD aggressive pricing and new B3 revision does it stand a chance against an upgraded Q6600? Let us find out."
| | New Guide: Windows Photo Gallery Wednesday, May 07, 2008
Digital cameras are really pretty great for people who aren’t naturally comfortable with technology. The point and shoot method often brings out a surprisingly high percentage of great shots with quality cameras. Most novice users have mastered the task of transferring photos to their PC – but that’s often where they stay, The task of organizing them or burning them to DVD just falls by the wayside. Windows Vista has a built in Photo Gallery that offers much more than a neat way to view your photo memories. “You can view, rate, and tag photos and then sort the photos by these criteria. You can also use the search feature to find the exact photo you want. This article explores the options available to you through Photo Gallery.”
| Get a HDTV or Stop Watching! Wednesday, May 07, 2008
The deadline for getting a HDTV if you’re in the US is less than one year away. After all technology must progress! OCModShop investigates: “HDTV is a big entertainment train coming at the consumer 100 MPH. In the US it took a bunch of years to transition viewing from B&W to color. Now the government has said everything/everyone will go from SD to HD in less than three years and that finish line is next February. Networks and stations are moving to beat the deadline and they're well on their way. Set manufacturers can't wait for every household to make the transition even if the sets aren't as big (expensive as they would like).”

| | | The Joys of Auto-Defragmenting | | John Gatt's Babblings
| By John Gatt onMonday, May 12, 2008 10:01 AM | |
| So, you get up on Monday morning and the first thing you want to do is get stuck into work, complete the benchmarking you started on Friday and move on. It doesn’t quite work that way with Windows Vista. As I loaded up the Crysis benchmark, I noticed a whole heap of hard drive activity and then I remember that Vista likes to automatically defragment hard drives. You watch the RAM usage go through the roof and benchmarks end up no where near where they were when Vista wasn’t trying to fragment you ... | | | Comments (0) | More... |

| By John Gatt onFriday, May 09, 2008 3:43 PM | |
| I got into an conversation earlier on in the week with some guys I was gaming with about the hardware they are using. I am really surprised how many were using sub-$100 graphics cards in their gaming systems. One particular guild member was quite proud of her new $60 graphics card and how much it had dramatically improved her gaming experience in WoW. I really sup ... | | | Comments (0) | More... |

| I just had to wake up our webmaster. The site had been down for fifty minutes and that was enough downtime. He had said to call, what ever time of day it is, if the site was ever down, so even though I felt bad for waking him in the wee hours of the morning, I made the call. Sorry to anyone who tried to visit when it was down. I don’t know what Stuart has done but just minutes after speaking to him, it’s back up and working again. :/ & ... | | |

| A friend of mine was using USB flash drives to cart her homework to and from college. One day there was a problem. She wasn’t sure what was going on but she did the smart thing and stopped what she was doing to run her virus protection software, in her case, AVG. | | |
