Introduction

In this series of articles (and accompanying video series), I have been showing you how to build a Blu-ray system step by step. The most boring video in the series by far was the one showing the installation of Windows Vista, the drivers and the software. So rather than doing a boring old write-up, I’m going to just give you a few pointers about this stage of the PC building process. If you need a refresher course on installing Vista, by all means watch the video, but otherwise, just take note of the points in this article. After that I’ll talk about playback testing. But before any of that, we’d better install the BD-ROM drive and hard drives.

Installing the BD ROM

Like a lot of other cases, our multimedia case has a rectangular bracket which the BD-ROM will be affixed to.

Slide the optical drive into the bottom section of the bracket. When you slide a ROM drive into a bracket, line up where the drive will show at the front of the case and therefore where it needs to be positioned in the bracket. In this case, the drive needs to be in the bottom of the bracket to line up with the ROM drive door on the front of the case.

You also need to line up the holes on the drive with the holes on the bracket.

To fix the BD-ROM drive to the bracket use core thread screws.
