When you start the program you will a screen similar to this. [Note: I am using version 1.9.6. Version 1.73 has a different UI].
The top side of the application window contains a menu bar and below that there is a customizable taskbar that can contains one click functional buttons. The left side of the window has the FlashGet section which contains a tree view of categories. You can create/delete/rename categories. On the right hand side there is a FlashGet Recommends section which contains a few popular downloads recommended by FlashGet. On the top of the FlashGet recommends section, you can see a search toolbar. The center area of the application shows active and completed downloads of the correspondent categories. Below that there is section which shows the download progress both in Graph and Log view. Getting Started
The FlashGet download manager starts automatically whenever you copy any download link from any websites. Alternatively, to start the FlashGet, just and drag the URL on the DropZone icon. Once you have copied any download URL or dropped any URL on the DropZone icon, a window appears similar to this: In the above figure you can see that URL text box contains the download link which is fetched automatically. Below that you will see a referrer textbox. Some servers require a referrer in order to start a download. Leave it empty and FlashGet will enter the right URL for you. Select a desired category and location where you want to save the file. If you wish, you can also change the file name for your convenience. One you are done click on the OK button to begin the download. In the main window, you can view the download progress similar to the following picture:
In the above figure, the upper section gives information like, Filename, Size, Completed, Percent, Elapsed, Time left, download speed etc... And the lower section shows the download progress in graph and log view. As soon as the download starts, the DropZone icons shows the download progress in percentage and the icon shows a graph which shows the speed fluctuations.
The user interface is very simple and easy to use. The other functionalities of FlashGet includes: - Batch Download
- Torrent Download
- File update checking
- Import and export
- Site explorer
- Make torrent file and many more ...
Conclusion
As a freeware, FlashGet offers an impressively rich set of features and of course, I can say that FlashGet is an all-in-one perfect download manager. Its simple user interface allows anyone to use it. FlashGet qualifies to be your PCs default download manager. While designing FlashGet, two very important things were kept in mind: Speed and proper file management.

Flashget is good, and with the flashgot addon for firefox its better but iv always found Orbit downloader FASTER with NO ADVERTS on the stupid box all the time! plus orbit can even download a file that is no longer on the server it can search other users like a P2P system, and get the file as long as its a popular one. also orbit lets you download any flash video like youtube etc. Highly recommended.
