The New Kit

Let’s have a quick look at some of the hardware were going to be using in our upgrade. A lot of the hardware for this series was supplied by Altech Computers www.altech.com.au

1200W Gigabyte ODIN power supply

Radeon HD 4850 cards from Gigabyte and HIS

Two GeForce 260s from EVGA so that we can check out SLI

An MSI high end graphics card: 280GTX

A whole heap of fans from Antec; all the fans are going to need replacing after 5 years because all the bearings wear out.

We’ll be using a quad-core Extreme edition CPU.

We’ve got some Corsair DDR2 RAM.

There’s also a Thermalright CPU heatsink …

 … and a Hitachi SATA2 hard drive.

I almost forgot the mention the motherboard, but actually I won’t at this stage. We actually ended up trying out two and I’ll explain why later on down the track.
