According to the one A4 page User Manual, which is easy to follow if you look past the poor English, the method for bluetooth connection is:

  1. power on the speakers
  2. press the left button for 3-5 seconds to "open" bluetooth. A red and blue LED will flash.
  3. search for and find AVLABS from the device you want to connect from (PC, mobile phone etc)
  4. enter the pin code which is 1234 and connect
  5. you can now play from your device to the speakers via bluetooth

John connected his Sony Ericson Cybershot mobile phone to the speakers. He (annoyingly) played through all of his ring tones and tested an MP3 or two. Then I rang his mobile. The ringing of his mobile didn't come through the speakers. He switched to hands free when he answered and my voice, as the caller, played on the speakers while his voice was picked up by the microphone of the phone. All very logical. Of course, that's not what it's designed for, although we had had to try it out.

You can only have one device connected to the speakers at a time. When you've finished with one device, turn the speakers off at the power and then go through the process of connecting and pairing again with the new device.

I connected an OQO model 02 UMPC. It was very easy. Since the connection was set, any time I now turn on the OQO I just double click on the Bluetooth icon in the system tray and then double click on the AVLABS logo to connect to it. Volume can be controlled from the device.

The sound quality of the AVL337 speakers is robust, and clear, but the clarity may not be crispy enough for the discernable ear. We tested the speakers against a set of mid-range Logitech PC desktop speakers and I preferred their sound quality whereas John preferred the AVL337's. They were just slightly different.

The volume level is adequate for any room, small or large. It wouldn't be loud enough; however, if you were to play music in one room and expect to enjoy it from another. The bluetooth connection dwindles and crackles the sound right smack bang on the ten meter limit as well, so whatever device you have connected to the speakers must be in the same room. I did walk outside with the OQO playing a tune and stood on the other side of the brick wall while still being within ten meters of the speakers. No dice, it couldn't transmit through the brick wall.
