Guide to Windows Photo Gallery

Photo Gallery offers simple tools to manipulate photos. You can use the edit tools to rotate, adjust color, adjust exposure, crop, and fix red eye in photos. Let’s talk a little bit more about each action before we discuss how to perform them.

Adjust Color – A lot of photos have colors that just don’t seem right. Adjusting the color aspect can fix these problems.

Adjust Exposure – Exposure relates to the amount of light visible in the camera at the time of taking the picture. This basically allows you to adjust brightness and contrast of a photo after having taken the picture.

Crop – To crop a photo, means to cut out portions to create a smaller version. You might want to crop a photo if the scenery surrounding the focus doesn’t fit well.

Fix Red Eye – The flash from a camera sometimes gives a nasty red-eye look, which can be fixed in Photo Gallery.

To alter a photo, select a photo and choose “Fix” from the toolbar. This takes you to the preview screen with all the tools we just mentioned. Most actions are very straight forward. For instance to crop an image, you select crop from the preview sidebar and adjust the box to fit the area you want to save. Once you have the box around the area you want to keep select Apply and the program crops the photo. The color and exposure adjustments are intuitive as well. Just adjust until the photo looks the way you want.

Photo Gallery auto saves your adjustments. If you don’t like the tweaks you’ve made to the photo, select the photo and click “Fix”, click “Undo” at the bottom, and if necessary “Revert to Saved”. You can also select “Redo” to switch back to the fixed version.
