If you can single click on the first photo in a folder and select the start Slide Show button located in the middle bottom of the screen a Slide Show will fill the whole monitor with your photo. Simply click Esc on the keyboard to exit the view.

The magnifying glass with the plus symbol inside gives you zooming ability within the thumbnail preview screen This can be useful when you’re determining which photos need to be cropped or touched up.

When you right click a photo in thumbnail view, you are given the option to “Preview Photo”. The preview function displays a larger version of the photo, and provides you with the tools necessary to alter the picture. From the preview screen, you can also add tags to the photo and rate the picture. If you do not see the ratings and tags for your photo, click the “Info” button to show it in the sidebar. The tools to alter the photo appear when you click “Fix” in the toolbar. We’ll discuss altering images later in the guide.

Why Rate Photos?

Digital photography allows you to take more and more pictures. The rating system identifies your favorite photos with a five star rating and a poor photo with a one star. This can free up time in the future, when looking for the perfect family photo for a Christmas card or just showing off your camera work to a friend.

You can rate photos from the picture preview screen.

  1. Select a folder of pictures from the left sidebar.

  2. From the thumbnail view, right click the first photo in the folder and select Preview Photo.

  3. Give the photo a rating along the right hand sidebar. If the rating and tag information doesn’t appear, then select the Info button in the toolbar.
  4. Give the photo a tag for easy reference later.

Quick Tip: While in the preview screen, you can cycle through the photos in a folder by using the right or left arrows in the bottom toolbar.

What are Tags?

Tags identify a photo by a single word. A tag can be as simple as “friend” or “Chicago.” You can view your tags from the same area where you view folders. They are listed alongside ratings as well. You can click on a single tag to view all the thumbnails of pictures with that specific label. You can also sort your photos by ratings in the sidebar.

Tags really show their worth when you travel to many locations and take loads of photos. You can add multiple tags to a photo. You could include a trip identifier tag and then narrow down the picture’s topic with more tags. For instance, “Bermuda”, “Cruise”, and “Sunset” would be three different tags that give you different avenues to find the photo in the future.
