Change Default Rip Settings

You can change the default settings, so you don’t have to choose the bit rate or media format every time you open Windows Media Player. To do so, open Windows Media Player, select the Rip tab, and choose More Options. This opens a dialog window where you can change the default location to put ripped files, the default format of ripped files, and audio quality.

You can specify the default location to store the music you rip. To do so, click the Change button to choose a new folder location. This opens a small window where you need to select the folder to store the new media files. By default, it sends the files to the Music folder on the computer.

The Rip Settings also gives you the ability to begin ripping music as soon as you insert a CD into your optical drive. You can also select the checkbox next to “Eject CD when ripping is complete” to speed along the process. The slide rule contains the quality or bit rate of the ripped music.

Once the default settings have been changed to your preferences, you are ready to begin ripping your CDs to your hard drive.
