Windows Calendar Groups

Windows Calendar gives you a few options for organizing your calendar. You could create new calendars for each type of activity and separate those activities by color. You could also utilize groups to separate out two of the same activity performed by different people.

Let’s assume a two children household would want to create a calendar for their children’s health, sports, and school related appointments. This could be done using different calendars, but would make more sense by using groups.

With groups you can create a subset with the calendars underneath, which helps to granularly separate out various activities. If your children were named Josh and Amanda, then you would create two groups – Josh and Amanda. Underneath each group, you would create three calendars – School, Health, and Sports.

Quick Tip: Every calendar has to have a different name. For this reason, each calendar under a group would need to be prefixed by an initial or number.

  1. Open Windows Calendar.
  2. Select File > New Group.
  3. Name the group Josh. Create another group the same way and name it Amanda.
  4. Now right click Josh’s name and select New Calendar. Do this three times creating Sports, Health, and School calendars.
  5. Repeat step four for Amanda.
  6. Change the colors related to each calendar to match each group’s color shading.

Now each calendar can be marked with the individual schedules for each of the children. It makes organizing the calendar much more precise. With anything, there are numerous ways you can organize and manage your schedule. But what if you want to publish that schedule?
