The Windows Calendar Toolbar
The toolbar holds many of the necessary functions for using Windows Calendar. You can create new appointments, new tasks, delete entries, change the view, subscribe to online calendars, and print.
There are a few obvious differences between appointments and tasks. A new appointment has more information related to it. For instance, an appointment might have a location and start and end time, while a task would simply have a job to perform within a certain time frame. Let’s create a new appointment to see how the calendar works.
- Select New Appointment from the toolbar.
- Enter the appointment details. The action occurs on the right sidebar. The following information can be entered for new appointments.
- Details
- Location
- Calendar to which the appointment applies
- URL of the calendar
- Checkbox for an all day appointment
- Start and End times
- Recurrence
- Reminders
- Participants
- Notes
When you add an appointment it appears in the middle viewing area. This can help you adjust times and appointments to fit your busy schedule. There is no need to save appointment information, as the software updates the calendar automatically. You’ve now created your first appointment.

To add new appointments, you can right click the time of day, select New Appointment, and fill out as much of the details as you see fit. Let’s look at duration events.
Duration events occur over the course of a few days or even a few weeks. Let’s say you will be taking a weeklong vacation. Under Appointment Information, set a start date of the first vacation day and an end date of the last vacation day. The event would stretch the width of the duration on the calendar, as shown in the Bermuda vacation example below.

In order to see the calendar as more than one day, select View from the toolbar until you reach the desired period. You can choose from daily, work week, full week, and month.
