Many events only happen once but many occur every week or every month – some as infrequently as every year. For those events, Google Calendar allows you to create recurring events. Let’s walk through how to setup a recurring monthly event.
- Select the first occurrence on the calendar and name it.
- Click the hyperlink of the event and choose edit event details.
- Enter descriptive information for the event.
- Select the frequency from the Repeats dropdown menu of the event. The available options are daily, every weekday, every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, every Tuesday and Thursday, weekly, monthly, or annually.
- Choose an end date for the event, if one exists.

Shortcuts for Duration and Weekly Events
We all like to get somewhere fast. In Google Calendar you can do a lot of things quickly without ever seeing the detailed edit screen. For instance, if you will be in Las Vegas for an entire week, simply click on Monday on the calendar view, then drag over to Saturday (or whenever you return). Once you have the time period selected, the calendar opens a dialog window where you enter in the trip’s details. Now you’ve quickly added a duration event without even seeing the detailed event page.
A weekly event can be created using the detailed event page. You can also create one in the basic calendar view. Here’s how you do it.
- Select the first day of the weekly occurring event.
- In the dialog window, name the “What” field like this “4pm Weekly Wrapup Meeting”.
- After you select “Create Event”, the item appears as “4pm Wrapup Meeting” and adds it to that day of every week.
