Gmail Mail Fetcher

Gmail has recently unveiled a POP3 service. Instead of forwarding your email on from other email accounts, you can setup Gmail to pop those messages into your Gmail directly. This makes the process ofcentralizing your email to all be handled by Gmail very easily.

  1. Select Settings (in the upper right corner of every page on Gmail.)
  2. Select Accounts and choose Get mail from other accounts.
  3. Now you need to select Add another mail account.
  4. Enter in the email address of the account you want to receive direct to Gmail. Select the Next button.

  5. The following screen requires the POP server address. Often times, Gmail will prefill this information into the field. If you have a lesser known server, you will have to enter this information into the field. Most likely, it ismail.yourdomain.com.
If you're not sure, you can find it in the email accounts information of your email client. In Microsoft Windows mail clients (Outlook and Windows mail) the information can be found under Tools - Accounts - select account - Properties - Servers.

  6. Before selecting Add Account, choose the options that suit your needs. You can label every email coming from that address, leave a copy of your mail messages on the server (useful if you're using Gmail for the account for a short period of time while on holidays or a business trip), use a secure connection or immediately archive messages when they come from that account.

You can add up to five separate email accounts to pop into your Gmail account. Gmail makes it quick and easy to pop email into your account, but if you experience trouble connecting, be sure to check with your email provider with instructions on popping email.
