Hacking the Appearance of Windows Vista Aero Windows
Many of you may know that Windows Aero allows you to customize the borders around open windows, such as open software windows, Internet browsers, and file explorers. The borders can be translucent as previously described, or they can be made to be wider, changed to a variety of colors, or slimmed down for a sleek appearance.
How to Alter Windows Vista Aero Borders To make the window borders wider in Windows Vista, right click the desktop and then choose Personalize. - Select Windows Color and Appearance from the menu of items.
- Select Open classic appearance properties for more color options.
- Highlight Windows Aero for the color scheme (this probably will be selected), then choose Advanced on the right.
- From the new dialog window, select the Item Border Padding from the drop down list.
- The border defaults to a value of 4. You can increase or decrease that number by increments of one.
- After you choose the border thickness, select OK. Windows grays out the desktop as the changes are made to open windows. The new border padding size should be apparent immediately after color returns to the screen.
You can use the same methods above to slim down the borders on any window. To develop the Windows Vista Desktop to your liking you may also want to change the color of the windows.
How to Change the Windows Vista Taskbar Color
The Windows Vista installation defaults to black, but why not change it to something brighter, and more inviting, like orange! - Right click the desktop and select Personalization.
- Select Window Color and Appearance from the available items.
- Choose the color you wish to make your window borders. Or you can mix your own color.
NOTE: You can only change the taskbar color slightly by moving the opacity slide bar to full for the color you want. The taskbar will still appear black, but be tinted whatever color you selected. In our case it is tinted orange. To change the taskbar to a rich full color you must use a custom theme. _tn.jpg)
