What to Backup

Before you start the Backup Utility, you need to decide what to backup. Here are some suggestions:

  • Bank statements and other financial records
  • Personal projects
  • Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express email and Address book
  • Digital Photographs, Movies and Music files
  • Software that you purchased or downloaded from the internet
  • Personal files and folders (usually in My Documents)
  • Internet Explorer or Firefox favourites

Setting Storage Options

What the Windows XP Backup does is to create one storage file for all the data you have set it to backup. You can store this backup file on your hard disk but it is also a good idea backup data externally, in a different location other than your computer. You can choose any one of the following devices to store your data:

  • External Drives
  • CD-RW
  • DVD-RW
  • USB flash drive
  • Online backup and storage
