Personal Data Safeguards
Many users are unaware that large amounts of personal data are transmitted while they browse. This information can be misused to get access to information that is personal and highly sensitive. Malicious websites that are clones of well-known and trusted sites are used for this kind of activity, and the average user is usually not able to distinguish between the two. IE7 and Windows Defender work in tandem to provide a series of security enhancements that help protect users from malicious websites and URLs that are not trustworthy. The Security Status Bar feature helps you differentiate between websites that are genuine and set them apart from suspicious ones. It does so by giving you access to digital certificate information and validating the trustworthiness of e-commerce sites. Watch the Information Bar for notifications about the trustworthiness of sites. In IE7, you can also delete your browsing history very easily: click on Tools and then Delete Browsing History. The Phishing Filter Phishing is a method used by malicious users to get Internet users to send their personal information, such as credit card numbers and passwords to a bogus website. The Phishing Filter uses a client side system that scans for suspicious activity from the websites that you browse. Along with this, it also uses an online system that is updated several times every hour. This online system gives the filter the latest information on fraudulent websites. The Phishing Control is an opt-in service that operates on two levels. On the one hand, it checks websites that users want to visit and analyzes those sites with common phishing sites. It also sends the website address to an online service run by Microsoft, to be checked against a frequently-updated list of known phishing sites. .jpg)
In Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Phishing Filter and Turn on Automatic Website Checking. If it is already turned on, the option will be to Turn Off Automatic Checking instead. |
