Audio is played back from within R2 himself. He features built in surround sound 20 watt speakers with tweeters, supporting 5.1 HC Dolby Digital.

Regular DVDs and CDs are also supported with a slot player that pops out from the front. It supports DVD-video, DVD-R/RW, VCD, SVCD, Audi-CD, CD-R/RW, WMA, MP3, DivX 3.0-5.03, MP4, JPEG. Not the most comprehensive list I’ve ever seen, but the DivX support should suffice for most Internet-derived content.

The projector itself comes out of, where else, but R2s classic blue “eye” – just like the well known message that Obi-wan plays from Princess Leia in Star Wars IV. [Edit: One of our readers pointed out that in the movie, R2-D2 actually projects the message from Princess Leia from the smaller protruding "eye". I checked the DVD and that's correct. I am wrong. I hang my head in shame :/ ]

Projector specifications:
  • 2xLVDS DLP with DDR2230
  • Maximum projection size: 254 inches (6.44 meters) diagonal
  • Brightness: 1500 lumen
  • Contrast ratio: 1800:1
  • Resolution: 1024x768 XGA

The projector also includes a sensor that will sound an alarm if the minimum distance to the wall (1m) is not present. It projects at a default five degree angle, or you can even lay R2 back (by remote of course) to project onto the ceiling.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't R2 project video out of the smaller direction adjustable "eye"?

Oh, you are correct! I hang my head in shame. And I call myself a Star Wars fan!

I want one! Never been into star wars, but i still want one! Although i think i'd prefer to make one myself with a built in PC instead as for $2700 it's kinda limited. Pico, Nano or Mini ITX would make a lovely additional feature, YouTube at a max of 264"... Lol. I mean, my big ass watercooled PC tower is on wheels so i can move it to any room, and even sit on it, ridin' it into the sunset-err, i mean living room!

For that price it should have a lil touch screen, wireless net access and a toaster!!!! Overclocked, of course :) Lets go over the top and add GPS so it can navigate around your home! YES! Bluetooth is missing! Blu-Ray (even though i hate it) and it doesn't play back HD-DVD! So again, for the money, bit...tacky looking, really! I'd rather have something you could use for many more things...like, oh i don't know, a PC! Did i mention i love PCs? =D

Kind regards,
Husky/Lee

I give it 6/10, unreachable for many people and for the cost it's quite limited. Battery life is crap (roll on Fuel Cells..) and from the photos it looks a little -too- plastic....not something you'd want around destructive kids either! $2700 for that thing...that's what put me off! I'd love to look at the insides though, see if it's actually worth that cash! And i hope you meant it's 20 watts RMS per channel (not "peak" value BS) and has 5 plus a sub! If it only has a couple of speakers built in it's pants!!! Lol
